November | Wednesday 20 | 2.30 pm - 4 pm | People’s Cafe Come along to a welcoming social space in Cork City Library over the autumn and winter months. Free to attend. Friendly discussions with art/craft activity. There will be tea, coffee and biscuits. You don't have to be an expert in art, craft or English to join in. Flosc will be launched by Theo Dorgan, One City One Book writer, 2024. November | Thursday 28 | 6.30 pm | Ahhhh Gerry! A Kaleidoscopic Poetry Happening. An anarchic birthday celebration of Cork's beloved poet. With a non-stop line-up of diverse Cork talents performing a selection of poems by Cork's venerable Gerry Murphy. November | Saturday 30 | 3.30 pm – 5.00 pm | Out-Lit Book Club This rainbow book club meets on the last Saturday of each month. It is open to all and welcomes new members. November | Saturday 30 | Book Launch | 4.00 pm | Stirring to Life by Jeanna Ní Ríordáin Poet John W. Sexton will launch Stirring to Life a chapbook of poems by Jeanna Ní Ríordáin. Jeanna is a poet and translator from Gaeltacht Mhúscraí in West Cork. Fáilte roimh chách! Music Library October | Wednesday 2 | 11.30 am | Music Appreciation The Rory Gallagher Music Library will be host, to staff member Ben Hussey’s monthly Music Appreciation Society. October’s edition will feature Fleetwood Mac’s iconic album Rumours, the album will be listened to in full, with a breakdown of each track. All are welcome to this very enjoyable event. October | Thursday 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 | 11.00 am -12.00 pm | Ceol Mara A group sing-along for up to 15 adults, you will sing a range of easy Amhrán as Gaeilge ‘Irish songs’ and Sea Shanties/Folk Songs. The songs are edited/shortened to suit the audience. It’s a fun sing-along for all abilities. October | Friday 4 | 11.00 am | Ceol Lore with Eve Telford Come along and listen to some local music and enjoy the stories around the songs and the artists, enjoy insightful discussion, the history and the cultural significance of our musical heritage. This event blends education and enjoyment in an authentic experience. October | Saturday 5 | 1.30 pm | Slow Trad session As part of the Cork Folk Festival, a slow traditional music session with Catherine Frost and friends, bring along your music instruments and join in. All welcome. October | Saturday 5 | 4.00 pm | William Jack As part of the Cork Folk Festival, William Jack a multi-style cellist and songwriter from South Australia. He is best known for incorporating his jazz guitar background into an unconventional style of cello playing, with a passion for breaking boundaries between genres and cultures. His music transitions seamlessly from virtuosic folk and bluegrass compositions to non-Western sound worlds. William enjoys exploring the ever-expanding capabilities of string instruments and bringing the cello into new territories.
