October | Saturday 5 | 6.00 pm | Book Launch | Cork Folk Festival 1979-2024 Reeling Down the Years As part of Cork Folk festival. Cork Folk Festival 1979-2024 Reeling Down the Years by William Hammond will be launched by Cllr Dan Boyle, Lord Mayor. The book is the story of Cork Folk Festival, it contains a chapter for each festival, the artists, groups and bands and a selected discography of Cork LP's, cassettes and CDs released from 1929-2024. Music and light refreshments. October | Wednesday 9 | 3.00 pm - 4.30 pm | Black History Month workshop with Jenny Mitchell Join award-winning poet Jenny Mitchell for a workshop about Freedom. Jenny Mitchell is currently the Inaugural Poet-in-the-Community at the British Library. She won the Gregory O'Donoghue Prize in 2022, and the Poetry Book Awards in 2021. In a world that seems increasingly chaotic is it even more important to think creatively about this elusive concept? What is Freedom and how can we attain more of it in a kind and responsible way? Jenny will offer inspiring poetry prompts in a relaxed but challenging atmosphere. This Black History Month workshop is open to all. New and experienced poets welcome. Maximum: 12 participants. Booking Essential patricia_looney@corkcity.ie 5.00 pm Jenny will perform her poems and include an open mic for workshop participants. October | Thursday 10 | 2:30 - 4 pm | Friendship Café Come along to a welcoming social space in Cork City Library over the autumn and winter months. Friendship Café is hosted by SERVE and Think Speak Do Community Engagement. Free, family friendly event. There will be colouring pages and few toys for the children to play with so that their parents/carers can engage in discussions.
