This neuro-affirming workshop will help you to support your autistic child/teen to thrive. April | Friday 12 | 10.00am – 10.45am | Community Gamelan Workshop Come and enjoy a session of relaxed, inclusive music-making with the Cork Community Gamelan– a collection of Javanese metallophones and gongs. Presented by MGCC, UCC, and Cork City Libraries. No musical experience necessary. Workshop for adults and teens ages 16+ Booking recommended. April | Friday 12 | 4.00pm | “Throwing Shapes” Film Screening Throwing shapes is a short film (35 mins long) depicting the stories of 7 young Cork artists as they find creative ways to express themselves through Hip Hop. Co-produced by GMCBeats, The Kabin Studio, Graffiti Theatre Company, Cork Midsummer Festival and Music Generation Cork City. Supported by Arts Council Ireland/An Chomhairle Ealaíon and Cork City Council’s Arts in Context fund. Age guidance 16+ This film makes references to suicide and sexual assault that some viewers might find upsetting. Booking not required. April | Saturday 13 | 11.00am | Native Irish Trees presented by Pat O’Leary Illustrated talk on some of the better-known species of native Irish trees. Talk will include how trees are interdependent with other living species in nature, identifying some of their main features and uses. References will be made to links with Irish mythology and folklore and how trees in Ireland lend their names to Irish placenames. Free event, booking not required. April | Wednesday 17 | 1.00pm | Ukulele Concert live in the Lightwell followed by a short documentary entitled “Striking a Chord” The Holly Ukes, The Holly Wednesdays and The Ukulyptus are three different ukulele groups who meet and practice in Hollyhill Library. These 3 groups are now performing together in concert. Following this concert, there will be a showing of “Striking a Chord”, a short documentary about the Cork City Libraries- HSE Ukulele Programme. April | Saturday 20 | 11.30 am | Cork Songwriters Club monthly meeting All songwriters from beginners to more experienced in whatever genre are welcome to attend.
