John Noel Kenneally joined Crawford Supported Studios in 2018 and sadly passed away in 2023. He described his art as painting stories. His paintings are thick layered acrylic paint, applied directly from the tube onto card or board, he moved the thick paint around the surface with a brush, sponge. Clyde is an associate professor at Boise State University, where he teaches writing and translation. Descended from Catalan-speaking ancestors, he translates twentieth-century and contemporary Catalan poets including Ponç Pons, Dolors Miquel, and Maria-Mercè Marçal. March | Monday 25 | 6:00 pm | Readings by Salmon Press Poets David Gardiner and Thomas Redshaw To celebrate the publication of their new collections, Skenographia, David Gardiner and Ago: New & Selected Poems, Thomas Redshaw. Dr. David Gardiner is a poet, editor and professor who was born and raised in Chicago. From 2006 to 2010, he was the founder & editor of the international arts journal, An Sionnach, which published Van Morrison, Seamus Heaney, Eavan Boland, Paula Meehan and Eamonn Wall, among others. Thomas Dillon Redshaw is the author of Heimaey, The Floating World, Mortal, and fugitive broadsides and chapbooks. Raised on the North Shore of Massachusetts, he first encountered living Irish poetry in the impromptu readings of Desmond O’Grady in Cronin’s, behind Harvard. He studied poetry with X.J. Kennedy, John Montague, and M.L. Rosenthal.

The talk will discuss some of the species that call Cork home (even if only for some of the year), as well as the lesser-known species in our rivers, estuaries, city and forests. In this workshop lecturers from the CyberSkills group at Munster Technological University will cover 5 steps to cyber safety online. It will include how to check links are safe, how to recognise scams and what will make passwords easy to manage. This workshop is useful for anyone who wants to interact safely online, book train tickets, buy groceries and talk to family. The fossils are the subjects of active research at UCC, and visitors will examine the fossils up close with microscopes and magnifying lamps. The demonstration will be accompanied by a presentation by Dr Chris Mays, which will outline the significance of the fossils, and the importance of fossils for understanding Earth’s past and present. March | Unfinished Business A century of Women & Women’s Rights March | Like day and Like Night Sonic Poetry exhibition of the work of Rosalin Blue April | Frederick Douglas This fascinating exhibition looks at the life of Frederick Douglass, abolitionist, writer, orator, statesman, champion of human rights, and his connection to Ireland. 10-17 April | Ye Mayoral Booke of Thomas Pembrock, 1733 Over four hundred pages of hand-written information that gives a remarkable glimpse into the life of a resident of Cork city in the first half of the eighteenth century. 10-17 April | Rory Gallagher Music Library The Stanford Centenary Celebrations and its Cork Connections This exhibition is a collaboration between The Stanford Society and Cork City Libraries celebrating the Charles Villiers Stanford centenary. Charles Villers Stanford was a prolific Anglo- Irish composer. The exhibition highlights one of his operas based in a fictional west Cork village, named Shamus O’Brien. The main female role in this opera was given to Cork soprano, Kate ‘Birdie’ Conway. A focus will be given to this extraordinary woman in the exhibition, who went on to become one of the founding members of Cumann na mBan. 10-17 April | Local Studies and Learning Department Grief’s Broken Brow We are delighted to exhibit this fine press book featuring poetry and art inspired by archival material and artefacts from the War of Independence or the Civil War. The book was part of Poetry as Commemoration, a UCD Library project, supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport, and Media under the Decade of Centenaries programme 2012-2023, a project in which Cork City Libraries took part.

This exhibition considers the historical and literary importance of Ó Conaire’s Seacht mbua an éirí amach. It also discusses Ó Conaire’s life and other works. March | “Create Ability” Art Exhibition and Launch Exhibition celebrating young talented artists attending National Learning Network(NLN), who have discovered various artistic methods to help them express themselves through various art mediums. The young artists are people from different programs who have found their own preferred mediums such as graffiti, clay work, sculpting and painting to help express their talent in John Neville retired after 44 years working with the Port of Cork (Cork Harbour Commissioners) in 2018. He now channels his energy into the creative arts as a singer/songwriter, children’s author, and artist. Since retiring, he has produced two original solo music albums with a third on the way, and he is currently finishing his debut children’s novel. John has always had a lifelong love of art and this exhibition is a sample of his work, in various formats, that he has produced over the years. a creative context.
