Recording of nature can be extremely important, and also rewarding, as it can highlight where species are found, where they exits, if they disappear or where efforts can be made to support them in the future. Cork City Library will celebrate the launch of its very own ESKER box this Biodiversity Week. This event will be a celebration of the accessibility to this Environmental Science Kit for nature enthusiasts in the city. Each poet, chosen through open submission, will read in a ten-minute reading slot, in many cases availing of their first opportunity to give a reading in a professional setting. Including Eoin Cahill, Paul Dylan, Patrick Holloway, Róisín Leggett Bohan, Lauren O’Donovan and Niamh Twomey. In association with Munster Literature Centre May | Friday 17 | 4.00 pm | Mererid Hopwood and Mikael Vogel, moderated by Lucy Holme | Cork International Poetry Festival Mererid Hopwood is Professor of Welsh and Celtic Studies at Aberystwyth and Secretary of Academi Heddwch Cymru (Wales’ Peace Institute). She won the Chair and Crown for poetry and the Prose Medal at the National Eisteddfod. In 2016 her collection of poems Nes Draw won the Welsh Book of the Year Prize in the poetry category, and in 2023 she received the Hay Festival Medal for Poetry. She has been Children’s Laureate for Wales. Mikael Vogel was born in Bad Säckingen, Germany, in 1975. He has been based primarily in Berlin since 2003. His numerous awards include Hermann Lenz Writing Grant (2002), a Yakiuta Travel Grant to Hōkkaido, Japan (2015), and the Arbeitsstipendium deutschsprachige Literatur für Berliner Autorinnen und Autoren 2021.
